Finding Good Pool Landscaping Ideas

The pool landscape is an important investment that will hopefully bring pleasure to you and your family for many years. However, if you don’t plan your pool landscaping properly from the outset, it can end up being an expensive mistake. Draw a rough sketch to outline how you want the pool and the surrounding area to look.

The reasons for having pool will determine what type you decide to install. For example if it is just for the kids to have fun, then a smaller circular splash pool may be more appropriate. If you want to swim to get more exercise, a longer square or rectangle shape would be better.

Another thing you should think about when producing pool landscaping ideas is the position of the pool. With children running about, a sunken pool is not such a good idea unless you have fencing around it. A good option is to have above ground pool landscaping. A raised pool to climb up before getting in the water will make it harder for the little ones to fall in accidently.

Swimming Pool Screening

During the long hot summers it is great to be able to step outside for a swim, so pool landscaping is a very important matter for swimmers. Why should the insects and birds have all the fun in your pond? Join in the fun and build your own pond in the garden with attractive pool landscaping. Some pools can look out of place though so what is the best way to integrate it into the natural landscape?

Planting shrubs around the pool can help soften the look of your pool as well as providing an element of privacy. You don’t necessarily want your neighbors watching you as you dive in to the pool half naked, so well positioned planting can help provide some screening. Alternatively you can use some willow screening, which is very easy to construct, is natural and if positioned properly in the ground will grow.

A word of caution though, as you don’t want lots of trees and tall shrubs shedding leaves and flowers in the water. So think carefully about positioning and the types of plants you have around the swimming pool. Alternatively apple trees nearby could provide a fun game in the pool when the fruit starts to fall in the late summer.

On a serious note, fruit trees by the pool are a bad idea as they will attract bees. In fact avoid anything that will attract insects if possible. You can end up with a beautiful but fun swimming pool area that will be the envy of your neighbors. That’s if they can see it of course.
