Choosing a Portable Grill - Gas or Charcoal?

By

Owning a portable grill gives you so much flexibility when it comes to cooking. Isn’t it great to be able to cook for friends and family where you like, whether it is in the house or outside in the back yard.

Just think of that leg work you don’t have to do by moving your grill to exactly the place you want it to be. If you don’t have a great deal of room in the kitchen, you can store the grill away until you need to use it again.

Gas or Charcoal

There are many alternative portable grills in the market these days and while the quality seems to be improving, they are becoming more affordable too. The beauty of a portable grill is you can cook your food where you like, or stay in the kitchen and wheel the food to the desired dining area. The question is whether to purchase a gas grill or a charcoal grill.

Gas grills take about five or ten minutes to heat up before you can start grilling, but they are easy to use and light up with just the press of a button. The advantage of a portable gas grill over charcoal is you can adjust the level of the flame by turning a dial. This is extremely helpful as different types of food need to be cooked at different temperatures.

The portable charcoal grill is better suited for outdoor barbecues and uses a combination of wood and charcoal bricks. The beauty of using charcoal is that it gives your food a lovely smoky flavor. You cannot control the temperature with a charcoal grill and they are harder to keep clean, but many of us are traditionalists when it comes to barbecues.

Outdoor Entertaining

Having a portable grill makes life so much easier as it can be positioned wherever you want it to be, including outdoors. It is so nice to be able to entertain and cook out in the back yard, so why not wheel your portable grill outside? On a warm summer’s day it is great fun having a few friends around for some drinks and good food in the back yard.

This can be made so much easier by having an outdoor grill, whether it is a gas grill or a charcoal one. Rather than rushing back and forth to the kitchen, you can do all your cooking outside on an outdoor portable grill. You can’t beat the smell of a good barbecue and as well as making your guests drool with anticipation, you can also make your neighbors incredibly jealous.

The stainless steel grills are more durable than other types and therefore better for outdoor usage. It might be unlikely that you will leave the grill out in the open 24/7, but the stainless steel models will last much longer and look much better than the cheaper alternatives. Either way, charcoal or gas, you will have a good hearty barbecue and earn the thanks of your grateful friends.

It's funny... we prefer cooking on a charcoal grill when we're at home, but when we're tailgating or camping I prefer portable gas grills. I guess because they light quicker and you don't have to worry about what to do with the charcoal when you're done. Anyway, nice hub!
